Bible-thumping Christians Defeat the Purpose of God
69
A couple of days ago two people left negative comments in one of my hubs. Normally people’s opposing views do not deter me from what I need to do nor do I lose sleep over it because I know where I stand with the Lord; however, this time it bothered me somewhat because I have seen the damage this attitude causes others. The irresponsible, insensitive, and hostile remarks people make can deter someone else from coming to Christ or getting right with God, thus causing the opposite effect God would like to see.
I am speaking of haughty insensitive rude Bible-thumping Christians that carry a Bible where ever they go or in this case, they carry it into other people’s hubs arguing and trying to force their erroneous views on others. After reading their insults in my hub, somewhat amused, it was quite evident they had no idea of what they are talking about nor did they understand what they have just read or chose to read.
I had one individual twist my words and grab a sentence here and a paragraph there and tried to make me look like a liar. I was wrongly accused of changing God’s Word and not taking the Bible seriously or logically. Then they went as far as to scold me by saying the Bible was not a “fun read” or a “novel” and it had to be read with the Holy Spirit within, and the insults continued. At one point, they stopped to add they were not trying “to offend” me but then continued to hurl more insults.
Anyone that has read my hubs will see that I back everything up with scripture. If anyone has a problem with that, they will need to argue with God. I also try to come across to my readers as clearly as possible with explanations. Yet, people still skip over many of the things I write and come to conclusions biased by their own interpretation of the Bible and wrongly accuse and judge me by their standards.
I calmly went back to what I wrote and re-read, thinking perhaps I made an error somewhere and I tried to find the mistake; however, I found none. I found that the preceding and following paragraphs explained in full detail what I was trying to convey but conveniently, this opposing argumentative character, missed it altogether. Wisdom told me it is pointless to argue with people like these when their minds are already set in their twisted thinking and will not budge.
Sometimes people need to re-read before they open their mouths. If their interpretation differs from someone else’s interpretation, they should not make false accusations and hurl insults at the writer or try to embarrass them in the comments section. Friend if you are accusing and judging others because their interpretation differs from yours, you own words will condemn you. You will be judged by what you have said (Mat 7:1, 2). If you are trying to make someone who is speaking truth out to be a liar and false teacher, eventually you will be made out to look like a fool and you will be accused of the same things you accused others of doing.
Of course, when I get an opposing comment from an argumentative stiff-necked Christian, I am tempted to come back with more words that may not meet God's approval. Believe me I can put up with the best when it comes to debates and arguments, but I choose not to. Instead of continuing to point out the fallacy of their thinking and go into a few rounds with them in the fighting ring, I pray for guidance and delete the bombardment of comments that follow as they continue to hurl more insults at me.
Some may like to partake in hostile and angry exchanges but not me; this is not my purpose here. I do have a Godly purpose here and other's opinions of me or what I write will not deter me. Sometimes I will allow an opposing comment and try to answer as politely as possible without compromising my beliefs yet open enough to listen, but when the other person continues to be argumentative and hostile, I will either ignore their come-back or delete their comments because it is pointless and not glorifying God. These negative comments are meant to cause strife and impose stubborn fallacy beliefs on others, and in the end they achieve nothing (Proverbs 18:2).
If God gives me a revelation and I learn from this revelation, and if God wants me to impart this to others, I make sure I pray over it for a period of time before I act. I ask God to confirm if this is what He wants of me. Furthermore, contrary to what I have been accused of, I take the Word of God very serious. The Word of God is not a “fun read” or a “novel” to me and I am Holy Spirit led when I write. It comes from my heart and from the revelation given to me by God. It is to teach others about many of the fallacies they have been taught in the past and it is to educate and bring people closer to Christ. After you read it, it is your decision to go with it and learn from it or continue in your journey as you were. However, always pray about it and ask for guidance and discernment.
There is much division in the body of Christ as is and when we get into arguments with each other about personal interpretations and beliefs, we are sending the wrong message to others and setting a bad example.
Furthermore, when we take the wrong approach in doing God’s works, then we are not bringing others to Christ; instead we are turning people off and turning them away from following Jesus. I come down stronger on Christians than I do on Atheists or any other group of people only because I have seen the damage some do, all in the name of God. This is not what God is about and this is not how God wants us, the Christians, to act.
God is a God of Love and a God of Wrath. However, God is very patient and patiently waits for his children to ultimately come to Him. He does not want anyone to perish. That is why He sent His only begotten Son to us. Then why are some trying to trample His work and His purpose? Let us take responsibility for what comes out of our mouths and our actions because we, the Christians, will also be judged.
I do not judge anyone, and I do not judge anyone by what they have been taught or by what they believe and neither should you. As Christians, it is not our job to judge others. Our job is to spread the Good News in love and without judging and ranting like some holier-than-thou bible-thumping lunatic. There is not one good person, only God is good. Everyone, including the Christians, will one day stand before the Great White Throne of God and be judged.
Be blessed in Christ

Faithful Daughter, due to the fact I've been up for 48 hours plus because of outreach and ministry, there were typos in my initial comment. I apologize. We are gearing up for a monumental explosion involving Holy Truth International Worldwide Ministries and the Baltimore City Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. There will be a Hub developed soon which showcase the resultant program which shall soon be carried and supported nationally. We are on the mountaintop, Faithful Daughter, and we have seen the Promised Land!
I love your hubs sister.
Nothing wrong with healthy debate and question and answer but when it turns arguementive and accusatory we know who operates behind the scenes to interject confusion.
When Nehemiah was confronted with the enemies who claimed to be with and for them but really were bent on confusing them and discouraging their work he sought the Lord and ignored their taunts.
When fellow Christian hubbers have ad a question about something in my hubs they either posted a respectful question or messaged me privately. That is the approach we should have respect for each other and unity.
It is sad for the gospel sake that this kind of hostility would become associated with it.
Don't let this distract you. Let it refine you and confirm what you believe.
I totally agree wity you Faithful Daughter. This was well written. I am appalled by some people on here that call themselves christians and in the same breath start attacking people because they don't think or feel like they do. Good Job
FD,
I know what you mean, but don't worry. God has their number. You just continue to stay true.
Excellent Hub! The problem is that when you expose them...they get uncomfortable. There is something inside of them that lets them know that they are wrong and you are right, and if they were to admit it, they would have to let go of their sins. But they enjoy their sins...and so they try to shut you up, so that you won't bother them anymore. So just keep on writing!! God Bless You!
I think this makes evident the problems of all religions. There are so many religions in the world, and have been probably hundreds since man first learned to walk upright and ask questions about why he was here. All religious belief is based upon faith alone. There are no scientific experiments to discover the nature of God, or even if there is a God. So, the religious must base their beliefs on blind faith. The problem is that other people also have blind faith, which leads them to totally different conclusions as to God's nature. If someone is questioned on their strongly held beliefs, upon which they base every aspect of their lives, they feel as if they have been personally attacked. This is what has caused so many acts of violence and religious wars over the past several thousand years. To me, as an atheist, it all seems a little silly, that people can get so angy over beliefs, which have little basis in fact. I prefer to put my faith in scientific reason and experimentation. That is not to say that I would ever question anyone's right to believe in what they choose to. We are all like children in this world looking for answers and for some kind of meaning. If that means people believing in different things to me, then this I believe is what makes the world such a varied place to be. And it would be boring if we all believed in the same things. But what I understand from the bible concerning the person of Christ, it is that he was a peaceful and loving human being. Why, so many of his followers today, feel so angry and violent when their faith is questioned, would seem to falsify their claims to understand the message of Christ.
I hate to see people blaming an entire religion for the shortcomings of the few loud mouths who act so counter productively. It seems to me that the mentality of bashing is only advocated in a few religious circles and for the main part is an individual expressing their own opinion rather than God's.
I'm not saying that you imparticular are blaming religion, rather that this is the worst byproduct of those who do go around Bible thumping. And I honestly believe that it is a smaller percentage of people than one might think especially if it is based on forum experience.
Faithful Daughter, just happened upon your writings here and took a read. I have recognized this fruit from many, it seems they have taken a crown to wear before it is bestowed to them by God, then fail to understand that the crowns will be cast down at the feet of our Lord upon his thrown. The last shall be first, the least shall be most. I have stepped away from main stream religion for recognizing the fruit they bare. I'm far from righteous and often fail at doing what I think is my duty as a believer in the Christ,Jesus and his teaching that was really quite simple and after placing him on high, our commander, seeking his will for us each day and treating others by lifting them up in his word, sharing food and raiment when need is found, most of all loving another as you would yourself is the greatest of all I cannot spew scripture by book chapter or verse, but if one has patience I will find where I read what I say in the Holy Book. I wish and leave you with much peace and love, 50
Great verse as well I looked after posting and I think it was 1 Corinthians 13:13And so faith, hope, love abide [faith--conviction and belief respecting man's relation to God and divine things; hope--joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love--true affection for God and man, growing out of God's love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.
It is all good from either verse and I'll try and remember your reference as I liked it as well, Peace,Blessings and Love, dusty
I love it, nothing makes me more livid than Christians arguing, I have a certain family member from another denomination that argued with me on my chirch and there beliefs and it could have caused me to give up and not even continue on, but good thing i'm kinda stuborn, i looked up all the opposing facts and looked them up and found that i believe my church and my bible, if anything I can thank him for making me dig in my bible. lol and i've been digging ever since. thanks ....
Good Morning Sis,
I also have seen some attacks since my short time on the hubs and it made my spirit cringe and so sad..There is no need for that. That spirit of confusion is alive and well even on hubpages..Keep doing what your doing and you were right to let it go..A meek spirit is a powerful spirit..I think of Jesus when he was being acused how he just stood there..sometimes their own words will come back sooner or later..If they are a true believer God will get them for the hate they spue. Thanks for a great hub. God BLess,
Sunnie
Very well said, Faithful Daughter. I am a Christian, but often find that other Christians beat me down for what I say or believe or worse, what I choose NOT to say. But, I often choose NOT to say something in a discussion because all I have to say will sound disagreeable or judgmental, and I don't want to bring that type of attitude into a discussion. I also find that often, just throwing out a Scripture or two can bring that same attitude, especially when it is simply used to beat down the words of a fellow Christian, regardless of their denomination.
I loved this hub, and no worries...I voted it up! ;-) And, awesome as well.
Vote up! Great article! Once I had a fellow Christian student in a secular college class, oppose my theory of Creation Vs. Evolution. He believed as I did, that Creation was evident and substantiated by the scriptures but opposed me due to his judgement of other Charismatic beliefs I held in private conversations with him. Needless to say, the debate turned into a blood bath of accusation and hatred with him leading the pack. He had the opportunity to join with me in an effort to reveal a Creation stance and yet caused division due to his own pride and I believe his own fear that he may have been wrong in other areas of his theology. After the so-called debate, I said to him.."Why didn't you celebrate in the fact that we are united in Christ Jesus instead of show us as fools who have no love for one another?" He thought about it and apologized after realizing the mismanaged moment but it was too late for the ones witnessing the havoc among brethren. You are absolutely right! We must only proceed with correction as the Lord instructs and ask ourselves what our motive is. Is it to be right or is it to bring understanding? If we are meshed in the attitude of wanting to be right, there is pride lurking in the heart and must be dealt with! Thanks for being so transparent and dealing with this controversial subject!

Don't even worry about it. It is what it is and sometimes ya gotta just leave people where they is and let God deal with 'em. In our walk and ministry, we will no doubt come across who think they all that. So be it. Just continue to do what you're doing and eventually they will be exposed. Your Hubs speak the truth and your approach is on point.
In they meantime, why not reset your comments section so that you can review comments before they are posted? No point in giving these individuals advertising space.
