Bible-thumping Christians Defeat the Purpose of God

A couple of days ago two people left negative comments in one of my hubs. Normally people’s opposing views do not deter me from what I need to do nor do I lose sleep over it because I know where I stand with the Lord; however, this time it bothered me somewhat because I have seen the damage this attitude causes others. The irresponsible, insensitive, and hostile remarks people make can deter someone else from coming to Christ or getting right with God, thus causing the opposite effect God would like to see.

I am speaking of haughty insensitive rude Bible-thumping Christians that carry a Bible where ever they go or in this case, they carry it into other people’s hubs arguing and trying to force their erroneous views on others. After reading their insults in my hub, somewhat amused, it was quite evident they had no idea of what they are talking about nor did they understand what they have just read or chose to read.

I had one individual twist my words and grab a sentence here and a paragraph there and tried to make me look like a liar. I was wrongly accused of changing God’s Word and not taking the Bible seriously or logically. Then they went as far as to scold me by saying the Bible was not a “fun read” or a “novel” and it had to be read with the Holy Spirit within, and the insults continued. At one point, they stopped to add they were not trying “to offend” me but then continued to hurl more insults.

Anyone that has read my hubs will see that I back everything up with scripture. If anyone has a problem with that, they will need to argue with God. I also try to come across to my readers as clearly as possible with explanations. Yet, people still skip over many of the things I write and come to conclusions biased by their own interpretation of the Bible and wrongly accuse and judge me by their standards.

I calmly went back to what I wrote and re-read, thinking perhaps I made an error somewhere and I tried to find the mistake; however, I found none. I found that the preceding and following paragraphs explained in full detail what I was trying to convey but conveniently, this opposing argumentative character, missed it altogether. Wisdom told me it is pointless to argue with people like these when their minds are already set in their twisted thinking and will not budge.

Sometimes people need to re-read before they open their mouths. If their interpretation differs from someone else’s interpretation, they should not make false accusations and hurl insults at the writer or try to embarrass them in the comments section. Friend if you are accusing and judging others because their interpretation differs from yours, you own words will condemn you. You will be judged by what you have said (Mat 7:1, 2). If you are trying to make someone who is speaking truth out to be a liar and false teacher, eventually you will be made out to look like a fool and you will be accused of the same things you accused others of doing.

Of course, when I get an opposing comment from an argumentative stiff-necked Christian, I am tempted to come back with more words that may not meet God's approval. Believe me I can put up with the best when it comes to debates and arguments, but I choose not to. Instead of continuing to point out the fallacy of their thinking and go into a few rounds with them in the fighting ring, I pray for guidance and delete the bombardment of comments that follow as they continue to hurl more insults at me.

Some may like to partake in hostile and angry exchanges but not me; this is not my purpose here. I do have a Godly purpose here and other's opinions of me or what I write will not deter me. Sometimes I will allow an opposing comment and try to answer as politely as possible without compromising my beliefs yet open enough to listen, but when the other person continues to be argumentative and hostile, I will either ignore their come-back or delete their comments because it is pointless and not glorifying God. These negative comments are meant to cause strife and impose stubborn fallacy beliefs on others, and in the end they achieve nothing (Proverbs 18:2).

If God gives me a revelation and I learn from this revelation, and if God wants me to impart this to others, I make sure I pray over it for a period of time before I act. I ask God to confirm if this is what He wants of me. Furthermore, contrary to what I have been accused of, I take the Word of God very serious. The Word of God is not a “fun read” or a “novel” to me and I am Holy Spirit led when I write. It comes from my heart and from the revelation given to me by God. It is to teach others about many of the fallacies they have been taught in the past and it is to educate and bring people closer to Christ. After you read it, it is your decision to go with it and learn from it or continue in your journey as you were. However, always pray about it and ask for guidance and discernment.

There is much division in the body of Christ as is and when we get into arguments with each other about personal interpretations and beliefs, we are sending the wrong message to others and setting a bad example.

Furthermore, when we take the wrong approach in doing God’s works, then we are not bringing others to Christ; instead we are turning people off and turning them away from following Jesus. I come down stronger on Christians than I do on Atheists or any other group of people only because I have seen the damage some do, all in the name of God. This is not what God is about and this is not how God wants us, the Christians, to act.

God is a God of Love and a God of Wrath. However, God is very patient and patiently waits for his children to ultimately come to Him. He does not want anyone to perish. That is why He sent His only begotten Son to us. Then why are some trying to trample His work and His purpose? Let us take responsibility for what comes out of our mouths and our actions because we, the Christians, will also be judged.

I do not judge anyone, and I do not judge anyone by what they have been taught or by what they believe and neither should you. As Christians, it is not our job to judge others. Our job is to spread the Good News in love and without judging and ranting like some holier-than-thou bible-thumping lunatic. There is not one good person, only God is good. Everyone, including the Christians, will one day stand before the Great White Throne of God and be judged.
